Dining Habits

Chinese are a nation developed in a farming society, and a nation caring a lot about clan. Most of dining habits are influenced by them.

Chinese used to have their dinner together with all the family members, sitting around a table. All the dishes are put in the center. Each person has one pair of chopsticks and one plate for meat or vegetable, two bowls for rice, noodles, bread, of pancakes and for soup, and sometime one cup for wine or other drinks. For formal meals and banquets, there are many successive courses which are served in a strict traditional order, the cold dishes followed by the hot ones, with soup coming later.

All the dishes are shared by every person around the table by picking as he likes on piece after another to his own plate. If the dish is too hot or hard to pick, one person will be put beside. If the dish should be shared equally, the host of one parent will stand up picking it to each diner eually.
