During the Dong Zhou Dynasty in 559 B.C., officials Sun Wenzi and Ning Huizi ousted their cruel leader Wei Xian Gong (the duke of the Wei Kingdom), who escaped to Qi. Sun and Ning established a puppet, called Gongsun Piao and ruled the kingdom together. At his deathbed, Ning felt sorry for what he did and asked his son Ning Zenzi to bring back Wei Xian Gong.
After a big struggle among the Jin, Wei and Qi kingdoms, Jin urged Wei to award the land of Yiyi to Wei Xian Gong. At Yiyi, Wei Xian Gong pleaded for Ning Zenzi to help him regain power, promising Ning that he will be the one who would be in charge of the Wei kingdom. Knowing Wei Xiang Gong's cruelty, many officials objected. Among them, Da Shu Yi was greatly disturbed, saying, 'The way the Ning's are serving the duke is Ju Qi Bu Ding (like someone who picks up a stone and is indecisive as where to make a move in a Weiqi game). They will certainly fail.'
Tempted by power, Ning Zenzi killed Gongsun Piao and reestablished Wei Xian Gong. Once in power, Wei Xiang Gong vowed to take vengeance. He eventually killed Ning Zenzi with the help of Gongsun Mian. Da Shu Yi was absolutely correct in criticizing the Ning's as being Ju Qi Bu Ding.
